Hey! Guess What?

February is Black History Month.

During this month we celebrate the accomplishments of many famous African Americans.

We can also learn how African Americans have helped make our country what it is today.

There are a lot of really cool things you can learn!

Like who invented peanut butter?

Follow the links to find the answers and lots more interesting stuff!

Mrs. Cupples can also do a lot of really cool stuff. What she cannot do is monitor the whole, entire Internet.  When you go poking around be careful, and ALWAYS let you parents know first!

Hooray for Turkey Day!

This year Thanksgiving is on Thursday, November, 22nd, 2012.

President Abraham Lincoln made Thanksgiving a national holiday in 1863.

Thanksgiving is ALWAYS on the 4th Thursday of November.

It's a time for people thankful for the good things in their lives.

Many people eat food traditional like turkey and pumpkin pie.

But, who started all this?

What were they thankful for?

Did they really eat pumpkin pie and turkey too?

Click on the DOTS in the picture to find out.

Mrs. Cupples does not control all the "turkeys" on the Internet. She works hard to make sure all the links in her blog work and lead to good safe places, but the Internet can be filled with all kinds of "gobbly"-gook.
Please always tell your parents when you go "hunting" on the Internet.  Never give anyone your name or any other personal info without your parent's permission!

What is Veteran's Day?

Veteran's Day is an American holiday that is celebrated on November 11th.

On this day, we make a special effort to thank the men and women who keep us safe in the Armed Forces.

We also take time to remember people who lost their lives trying to keep us safe and free.

Follow the dots on the picture to find out more about Veteran's Day.
The dots will take you to information, activities, videos, and games!

Mrs. Cupples tries really hard to find good links for each topic.
However, she is NOT the Commander in Chief of the Internet.
She has no control over the scallywags who post stuff that might not be right or good for kids.
Be safe when looking around the Internet, and ALWAYS tell your parents before you set off on an Internet journey!

Get Out And Vote!

Every 4 years the people of the United States get to choose a new president.
People get to vote for the person they think will be the best at the job of leading our country.
Well, most people.
Moms and dads and other grown ups can vote, but kids cannot.  You have to be 18 years old to vote.
This voting process is called an election.

Election Day is November 6th.
Follow the dots to learn more (and to hear a good story or two....)

Mrs. Cupples is providing all this information so that folks can learn more about elections.  She is the library lady, so giving people info is what she does best.  She is in NO WAY endorsing any candidate.
Also, the Internet can be a strange place.  Links that work and go to the right place today can be all broken and weird tomorrow.  So please always be safe when you are on the Internet and let your parents know what you are up to.

He had three ships and sailed from Spain....

He sailed through sunshine, wind and rain.
He sailed by night; he sailed by day;
He used the stars to find his way.
Cool poem, huh?  Read the whole thing!
Christopher Columbus was a world explorer.
He sailed off from Spain in 1492 to look for the new world.
What did he find?

Why is that important for us?

Click on the hotspots to find out lots more about Christopher Columbus and all his adventures.
Mrs. Cupples might be a great explorer of information, but she can't check everything single thing on the Internet.  So be careful while you are exploring the great wide web.  Always get your parent's permission before you start on a new web adventure.

Arrrrrrgghhh, Mateys!

September 19th is Talk Like a Pirate Day!

How fun is that?

But wait, I don't know how to talk like a pirate....

Follow the hotspots to find out how and to learn more about pirates!

Be careful and always get permission from your parents before sailing the opne seas of the Internet. Cap'n Cupples cannot be swabbing up all the messes on the World Wide Web. Arrrggghh!

We the People...

The US Constitution is a document that explains the basic, major laws of our country.

That makes it a pretty important document.
It's something all Americans should learn about.

September 17th is Constitution Day.

We use that day to learn about how our country runs.

Follow the "dots" to learn everything you ever wanted to know and more about the US Constitution.

Mrs. Cupples is the President of the United Library of Roberta Tipps, but she is NOT the president of the Internet.  She can't control any of the crazy business that goes on in cyberspace.  Be careful when poking around on the Internet and ALWAYS get your parent's permission.
